Maybe we could be like Julie/Julia only instead of recipes we exercise and work our way up to a marathon. Ha Ha. Ok, maybe a 5k? So, my husband and I love to judge people who let their kids watch tv and play computer games all day. Till I realized, oops, that's us. we've got a 9,5 and 2 year old and we are extremely sedentary. I never thought of myself as lazy. We live next door to a great park/rec center. But the truth is, we are.
So, today starts a new day! Doctor says we should exercise 60 minutes a day. Ya right. None of us are exercisers. My husband and I will car camp and walk the dog but that's the extent of exercise. Today, I told the kids we were going to walk a mile. We could go as slow as we wanted but we were going to do it. All three were crying as we attempted to get the shoes and socks on. It's been a LONG time since we've felt socks and shoes on as crocs and flip flops are our only foot attire. We made it a mile. 22 minutes! The two year old road the second half in the stroller. The 5 year old skipped off the start line and ran for 20 steps, slowed down and cried/screamed the ENTIRE rest of the mile. TRULY cried, out loud, while I dragged him by the hand for the entire 2 and a half times around the track. We slowed to pet a little cocker spaniel and the owner of the dog asked if the 5 year old was scared of dogs because he couldn't stop audibly crying. I said, "nope, he just hates walking". I wonder what all the neighbors thought as they heard our sad kids being forced into a one mile walk. If for no other reason, I write to say, if I can get my family exercising, anybody can. But this is only day one.
p.s. - as soon as I literally dragged my 5 year old across the 1 mile mark, he let go of my hand and took off running. Ugh.
